Task A

Think and articulate one activity where such tool can be used. Describe the activity.

An activity where a screen capture recording tool can be used would be when demonstrating animation development software in the classroom.

The topic could be ‘save the environment.’ A student can use any software from a pre-defined list, to develop a short-animated clip around this theme. The student then presents his story to the class.  However, during the creation of the short-animated video clip, the entire process is captured by screen capture recording software. At the end of the class, a link to the video(s) is shared with all the students, so that they can download and refer to it. This has multiple benefits:

  • The teacher and students can understand how the student used a particular software to create an animated clip. This helps the teacher assess the student’s capability and work. On the other hand, peers can use this to self-evaluate the steps they have implemented if they used the same software or even a similar one.

  • The screen capture recording can even be turned into a classroom discussion, to understand any mistakes or potential for reducing the number of steps to perform a particular step/task.

  • Many students who are not familiar with developing video clips can focus on the content of the student’s story. Then from the comfort of their homes, other students can use the steps shown in the screen capture to create their own video clips. They do not have to worry about making mistakes and can practice to gain familiarity and confidence in creating such a video.
