Task A Construct a brief form that you can use in evaluating digital videos when sourcing for resources to be used in your own teaching. In the school in which I teach, we have collaborative lesson planning, in which all teachers of a Form jointly plan the learning design and search for suitable resources to employ. The workload is fairly distributed and every teacher plays an equal part in developing each element of the learning design. Hence, for the process of evaluating digital videos the type of evaluation from that would be used is below.   Digital Video Evaluation Form Title of the Video Producer(s) Date Produced Target Audience For the following questions circle the appropriate answers. Length of the Video Short Appropriate Long Pace of the Video Slow Appropriate Fast For the following quest...

Session 7

Task A Identify and review one App that can be useful in production of Digital Videos. Adobe Spark Video is an app that is designed to create digital videos on the iPad and iPhone. This is an app that I have been using for the last two years with my students in secondary school. Its main aim is to provide users with the ability to create interesting videos very quickly. It provides soundtracks that can be added as well as your own voice to videos. It provides templates, backgrounds, and images or one can even upload images, videos and sounds. My students find it easy to as they can collaborate with each other to produce videos. A teacher can create a single account for all students, where they can save their videos, which the teacher can review from a computer or mobile device. Its simplicity and easy to use interface are what have made the app very popular on the App store in addition to the possibility to create a video in minutes. Task B Identify and review one...

Session 6

Task A List down benefits that this tool offers to project managers. The benefits of Zoho to project managers have been listed below: ·        Efficient and effective project planning: the ability to break down milestones in tasks and further into sub tasks to make them manageable. Also being able to assign tasks and monitor progress in real-time. ·        Gantt Charts provide an expected or committed timeline against real-time progress, which is also broken-down task-wise, providing areas in which more resources may be required or areas wherein progress requires expedition. ·        A variety of other reporting tools have also been provided in order to understand task-wise and team member-wise performance in terms, issues, achievements, and interface to share reports directly with clients. This also includes a calendar which provides a macro and micro view to understand every...

Session 5

Task A Critique an animation in terms of its quality based on the principles argued by Mayer and Moreno in the article recommended. I find the animation ‘Twitter Explained’ good.   This is the link to the animation http://www.explania.com/en/channels/technology/detail/twitter-explained This animation follows all of Mayer’s and Moreno’s principles. Multimedia principle – Throughout the video clip, the use of animation and narration is extensively applied. This enables the viewer to create mental connections, which plays a role in enhancing their understanding of Twitter. Spatial Contiguity – Throughout the clip, on-screen text is provided next to the portion of the animation so as to build mental connections between words and pictures, with reference to 0.30 to 0.36 seconds in the animation. Temporal Contiguity Principle – Throughout the clip, narration and animation are presented at the same time, which enables the viewer’...

Session 4

Task A Think and articulate one activity where such tool can be used. Describe the activity. An activity where a screen capture recording tool can be used would be when demonstrating animation development software in the classroom. The topic could be ‘save the environment.’ A student can use any software from a pre-defined list, to develop a short-animated clip around this theme. The student then presents his story to the class.   However, during the creation of the short-animated video clip, the entire process is captured by screen capture recording software. At the end of the class, a link to the video(s) is shared with all the students, so that they can download and refer to it. This has multiple benefits: The teacher and students can understand how the student used a particular software to create an animated clip. This helps the teacher assess the student’s capability and work. On the other hand, peers can use this to self-evaluate the steps they have imple...

Session 3

Task A Think about all four components of the RASE learning design model. Make a short plan for one video project. Specify a learning outcome, describe an activity to be assigned to students, specify what resources students will use in the process, and describe how you will evaluate the final video. Learning Outcome: “Students will demonstrate an understanding of sustainability by discussing ideas on how to reduce, reuse, recycle to protect the environment in Hong Kong.” Activity to be Assigned to Students: Scenario: “The amount of non-biodegradable trash in Hong Kong is increasing. As an environmentalist, you must develop a video for young students in Hong Kong, to educate them about the best and simplest ways in which they can be involved in protecting the environment.” Students will work in groups to collaborate on developing a digital storytelling clip. The students will discuss their individual roles among themselves and provide the teacher with a list of names ...

Session 2

Task A What role does digital storytelling play? Is it a resource or an activity, or something else? Digital storytelling is the culmination of the fusion of traditional storytelling with modern technology. In education, its purpose is to stimulate students to create their own videos using research and personal experience. It serves as a reflection of their knowledge and ideas and when effectively used highly engages students and the audience on the topic. It is an activity that requires students to research, select resources, develop multimedia skills, and involves collaboration and presentation. Furthermore, it causes students to select resources, but is not a resource in itself for the developer of the story. In fact, digital storytelling only acts as a resource for the audience to whom the story is being presented to. Therefore, it can be concluded that in principle, digital storytelling is an activity. Task B Look at the video development process. Now, thin...
